Food Trip Friday---Rice Roll Lunch Box

Lunch Box request by my kids

Rice Roll Lunch Box ( rice rolled with dried seaweed )

Note: This is for Food Trippers, I have posted this already but I will post them again with the recipe. Thanks!

Here' s the lunch box that I made during my daughters sportsfest at school with the recipe, you can read the story here.
It' s so easy to make even without the bamboo mat for the rice roll. All you need is a wrapper!! And you don' t need some rice substitute or whatever coz it' s not a sushi-- it' s a rice roll! It may take a while to make a perfect roll but making it is fun!! Here it is--

Ingredients: ( good for 3 person )

Egg - 1 pc
Salt - a few
Carrot - 1/3
Kinusaya ( seapods )- 6 pcs
Ground meat - 50 g
Dried seaweed - 1 sheet
Cooled rice - 200 g

A:

Naga negi ( long onion or leek ) - 3 cm
Goma ( white sesame ) - 1 tablespoon
Soysauce - 1 tablespoon
Sugar - 1 tablespoon
Sake - 1 tablespoon
Goma abura ( sesame oil ) - 1/2 tablespoon

How to make the rice roll:

1: Make a scrambled egg with a few salt, set aside
2: Cut vegetables lengthwise, thinly
3: Cut leak into bit pieces
4: Put A and the ground meat into the skillet, start heat at medium and saute . When the meat becomes brown, add the vegetables then stir fry for a while until it dried up. Set aside, let it cool
5: Place 1 sheet of dried seaweed on bamboo mat or wrapper, sprinkle a few salt over it, then press a thin layer of cooled rice on the seaweed ( it will be easier if you slightly wet your hands ). Leave at least 1/2 inch of the top and at the bottom edge of the seaweed uncovered ( it will be easier for sealing )
6: Arrange the egg and the mixed meat then roll from bottom to the top edge with the help of the bamboo or the wrapper tightly.
7: Cut into 10 equal sizes and put them into the lunch box.

You can put anything you like on your rolled rice-- like example for what I did on my recent lunch box, it is a wieneer and an scrambled egg, and mayonaise, rolled with rice and dried seaweed. You can also put some tuna mayonaise, lettuce and or any veggies of your choice for more healthier variations.

Remember, Practice is the key for a perfect roll ^_^ For Food trippers join us here. Chibugan na!!! \(^0^)/

On- Going Projects and Field Trip

story telling time

How are you guys?? I hope you' re all in good spirits and in pink of health.^_^ I' ve been working for some projects at Wakaba' s school together with other Japanese Mums for bazaar event at school wherein in we' re going to have to sell some food, put on games, flea markets, to raise some funds and donate them to their school just like the other year. We' ve been starting an on- going project and that is doing some handmade crafts to be sold on the bazaar event. It' s been hard for me to do some handmade crafts because I' m not used at it but with the help of some other Mums ( they' re too friendly and willing to help a beginner ) and in every projects made, I' m willing to take a challenge and now I' m starting to like it. The bazaar will be on November --too early to work on it but we have some schedules to move and some are to be made at home. We made some Christmas wreath, decorated with beads last year. Hopefully, I will post the finished product here ( if it' s done beautifully lol! ) soon! ^_^ 本当に にがて なんだから!!
Last week was Wakaba' s field trip at school together with the Parents--- the kids had a lot of fun exploring nature and playing outdoors. Here are some of the photos-- enjoy!
Lunch box request of my kids for picnic

Mommy Moments

Today' s theme is Grand Parents  Bonding--- I can say that my kids are lucky to have an awesome Grand Parents!! Their Grand Pa is known as old-fashioned and strict but when it comes to his Grand children, he loves to spoiled them with lots of love and presents^_^
Their Grand Parents were always there most especially on special events---Wakaba and Haruka' s birthday, and some of Japanese culture events like my kids 100 days from birth celebration, HinaMatsuri ( their GrandMom usually cook for them )and even that we moved out from their place ( we lived with them for almost 5 years ) they always find time to visit us here and or vice-versa.

As for their Grand Mom in the PI, they were still little when we had a vacation there but Wakaba still remember some memories with her Lola Julie during our stay there and even they don' t understand each other, they still have shared bonding moments with each other. I' m looking forward on our next vacation to the PI next year!! \(^0^)/

Food Trip Friday--Taiyaki at Taimu

My perfect Friday afternoon snack--- Taimu' s Taiyaki!! ^_^ It' s a popular delicious snack here in Japan--- a Japanese fished shaped cake with yummy filling. They' re traditionally filled with azuki, a japanese red bean paste. The taste is little bit like a pancake and for some stores like Taimu, it has a crunchy feeling. Some of my fave filling are custard ( yumm!! so creamy!! ), chocolate and potato salad but recently, some stores have brought new fillings and has a very, very tiny taiyaki' s!! Fun to eat and a good omiyage ( pasalubong ) but I prefer to eat them while still hot!!

Golden Week Episode 1

Golden Week --- May 1 to 4 --- Weather: sunny to cloudy

During the Golden Week here in Japan means Sansai Matsuri ( sansai means Japanese wild vegetables ) at my MIL ' s place. They are kogomi, taranome and fukinotou-- sansai is a seasonal treat in Japan available on Spring. We are helping them sell some sansai to their omice ( it is a ramen shop actually ) but because of the long holiday, we were expecting a lot of buying foods and eating customers that' s why we' re always there and not only that, friends were also there to help. It is a gathering to all of us. On Sansai Matsuri, Mochi Shiki ( Omochi Pounding ) is also being done to be consumed on the spot while still warm. My husband did the pounding and my MIL is the one turning and wetting the mochi. It is dipped in a savory soy sauce and wrapped in a crisp nori ( done by my MIL ) and the other is sprinkled with brown sugar-sweetened kinako ( done by me ^_^ ) and not in ten minutes time, it was sold out! \(^0^)/ oh really would love to have more pics but all are busy!!

Yakiniku Party at home--shrimps,chicken, pork and beef meat, veggies were served, grilled and dipped into a yakiniku sauce.

The Sansai Matsuri lasted for 5 days but we helped for only 3 days because we have to treat the kids outside, too. We were given a sack of rice from my MIL and some fresh veggies from my kids Great Granny right from their backyard!! I' m very thankful kasi nga L-I-B-R-E ! ! ^_^ Our stay with them was kind- a- tiring but fun! \(^0^)/

A Happy Mother' s Day Tag and update

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

Before I was a Mom -
I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom -
I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom -
I had never been puked on - Pooped on - Spit on - Chewed on, or Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and My thoughts. I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom -
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests...or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom -
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life
so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom -
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known The warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Send this to someone whom you think is a special Mom...

And remember that behind every successful woman......
is a basket of dirty laundry.

-Unknown

I receive this wonderful tag from Bambie of My Kawaii Princess Story . Thank you so much!!

Bambie made my beautiful Kizuna button, too!!For those who want to grab them, you can do so and please let me know if you have also so I can add yours, too. Thank you so much, dearie!! And I love this wonderful Mother' s Day tag from you. I' m sorry but I wanted to keep this tag for me because this day means a lot to me....

Sunday--Mother's Day---I' d like to take this opportunity to post some updates here and let everybody know that I' m back from the long holiday-- first it was fun, we enjoyed a lot of course, not until Haruka fell down for about 3 meters high ( during the last day ), she was crying into pain, there' s no bleeding but we' re not sure if she hit her head then we rushed her to the hospital. The doctor checked upon her, she had bruises on her right arm, checked if she can walk or talk correctly and she did--the same Haruka, well the difference is she had a tears on her eyes. The doctor said to observe her 24 hours and if we see that Haruka is acting strange or seeing some symptoms like vomiting, etc we have to let her back to the hospital immediately. The doctor leave us the number of ambulance to call for emergency then we went home. Pero hinde ako mapakali (T_T)
Monday--- I was trying to calm myself ( I didn' t get enough sleep ) checked on her, pinilit ko cyang tanungin ng tanungin para malaman ko kung makakasagot cya ng direcho.

To all Mom' s that I haven' t greeted yet ---Happy Mother' s Day po!! And to those who extended their greetings and prayers--- Maraming Salamat po!

Food Trip Friday---Yakiniku at Za-Za

Yakiniku

Going to a Yakiniku restaurant i s such a great spot to spend time with your family and or with friends. It' s has a great atmosphere. The food and drinks are really good! Yakiniku meats are flavorful, fresh and tender. It is mostly do-it-yourself kind of foodie and the waiters here were pretty responsive to your orders and requests. A great atmosphere, barbecue foods on the table grills and lots of food to share with one another and all for a good price. Some people may not like the idea of cooking your own food, but it' s something different in dining and it' s fun. I would highly recommend to people to try A la Carte' menu at yakiniku restaurant-- Try a bit of everything! From meats, seafoods and vegetable varieties! Enjoy!
