Celebrating Our New Year

---osechi-ryori---

The holidays for me has always been about my family at the bukid of tralala, party and food and it' s our first time to celebrate our New Year without my Mother-In-Law ( she's in the hospital since last week of November due to an accident) but still enjoyed a well- deserved break without having much hassles in the kitchen( well, sort of lol! I made an Iridori without the chicken because there's no meat inside their fridge ) and managed to keep up the tradition. My Sister-In-Law bought ready-made osechi-ryori ,a traditional New Year foods with meanings---they can be kept for days without putting them inside the fridge. I'm not really familiar of the meanings but here' s some of them: kurumame ( a slow simmered sweet black soybeans means fertility ), a lucky color pink and white kamaboko( fishcakes), datemaki, konbu ( a kind of seaweed means joy) and because of the sweetness of a ready-made kurikinton, my MIL usually made her homemade kurikinton(candied chestnuts and sweet potato means wealth ). In order to start the year in the most positive and pure way possible, the whole house was given a cleaning on December 31 ( same as cooking too, so that on January 1st can be spent with families and friends and yes, we cleaned our apartment too before we left ), took a bathe, prayed for good health and fortune for the coming years ( the buddist way )and started our dinner festives. My Father In Law went to see the first sunrise of the new year and went to the temple and gave us omamori(a japanese amulet). I wish too someday to be able to watch the first sunrise, it's really freezing cold out there because it's by the sea.

Isang Araw Lang:Takbo Para sa Libreng Kolehiyo

I would like to support a friend of mine Stacey of Stacey Avenue's 1st Anniversary Special: a Blog Campaign For Free College Education for a very noble cause for kids who can't afford to go to school which also urged me too to support a charity marathon event, called the Isang Araw Lang:Takbo Para Sa Libreng Kolehiyo(Just One Day:Run For College Education)
This is a fun run/marathon event that will grant Free College Education (which means free tuition fees, free books, free uniforms, and free meals) to Filipino students who want to study but cannot afford to do so. This event is going to take place on January 31, 2010 at the SM Mall of Asia in the Philippines.(For more details visit http://sports37.net/ )

I do believe that being at school is where the dreams are built and a bright future is foreseen. Let's support these kids for a more brighter tomorrow. Be one of the 5o thousand runners who will run for FREE EDUCATION!!

This is not a sort of a contest but a blog campaign to support a huge event with a purpose and I do believe the power of blogging works! Happy Blog Anniversary, Stacey!!I'm happy to be a part of this noble campaign! More power to you and your blog! ^_^

Wakaba had their Christmas Stage Play at their school before Christmas Day--forgive me but the mother in me have this feeling of proudness as I watched my daughter Wakaba performing on stage. She have done her role perfectly without freezing although she was a lil bit nervous as she told me before she went on stage. I could still remember that she went home very sad one day--poor Wakaba wanted the role of Mary but she lost only one point of the vote of her classmates. She practiced her roles very well that even her sister Haruka have memorized the lines and songs. She played the role of the narrator, the angel and a "yadoyasan"( a lady role in which Mary and Joseph asking for shelter and went to door to door but always get refused )and has a lot of exposure during the play. And since Japan isn't a Christian country, not all Japanese knows the story in Bethlehem. The school Principal/Director tells the story ( of the birth of Jesus ) so that everyone will have an introduction of every scene is all about . The children played their part very well and it is very enjoyable musical production and their costumes is simple and yet cute. They sang Christmas carols and of course, in Japanese! Acting out the Christmas story in a musical form is a wonderful way to instill the love and joy of Christmas! ^_^

Your Friendship Is A Blessing!

I can't begin a post without thanking everyone who sent their Christmas and New Year greetings from my message box, comments box, e-cards, Christmas cards, New Year post cards all the way to Japan. It is really a great feeling to be remembered by friends and loved ones. Your friendship is truly a blessing!! I never thought that I could find friends thru Friendster, Facebook, and here at blogosphere and touched my life in soo many ways and never thought that would continue the fun for a year of blogging. Thank you all soo much, it is all because of you that made it worthwhile!!
I would like to thank sistah Eds of My DigiHome for a lot of goodies for Wakaba and Haruka and a perfume for me--thank you so much for the thoughts, dearie! From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the friendship, too!! ^_^

I'm wishing you all happiness, prosperity and continued success!! HAPPY 2010!!

Food Trip Friday---Christmas Festives

I love preparing foods for events like Christmas and treat my family like we're eating in a restaurant although we're celebrating Christmas Day at home! Roasted Chicken as the main, baby leaf veggies topped with roasted beef for the salad(binili ko lang ang beef), some appetizers and of course, how can I forget a sparkling wine for toasting ( for me and hubby ) while sharing a great dinner. Christmas in Japan ain't complete without a cake at the table and I thought that they're too stuffed for dessert but still had some room to fill the milky crepe and layered by the richness of mascarpone cheese and was luscious!
Simple Hors d' oeuvre--Terinu (salami&cheese),mashed potato wrapped with ham(mash boiled potato, add boiled egg and cucumber(thinly sliced), mix with mayonaise, add salt and pepper to taste then wrap with ham and arrange platter
Rice topped with Prosciutto--mix cooked rice(in a bowl)with ham(cut in small pieces), zasai ( chinese pickles ), some sesame seeds and mix, top in raw prosciutto and sprinkle ground black pepper

Roasted Chicken--dust chicken legs with salt and pepper, marinate for one day with marmalade, soysauce, sake or white wine. Put chicken in a 200 deg C pre-heated oven for 25-30 minutes until done. Arrange platter, garnish with bed of veggies
Christmas Cake from Re Mercier-- it was ordered on-line and shipped to us before Christmas complete with cocoa powder for garnishing, freezed blueberries and raspberries, Christmas candles and decors plus my order a Silhoutte Glass candle holder for a romantic effect.
Tiramille De NoelMilky crepe folded with creamy and rich Tiramisu (an Italian dessert)
